What Is The Gospel?
The Gospel is the greatest redemptive story our world has ever heard and can know. It is a story that is told from Genesis to Revelation (The Bible) and is all about what Jesus accomplished in His Life, Death and Resurrection. It is the greatest story about the greatest person that has ever lived. And here it is…
CREATION: Our world did not begin by some random collision of gases. It didn’t happen by chance. This world and everything in it has been created by a God who has an astonishing capacity to love. He created the Heavens and the Earth and He created mankind with the same capacity to love. So that He could love them and they could in turn return their love to Him. It is all driven by love.
EVIL: At the moment of creation, all was well in the world. Harmony existed among God and mankind. But soon the story took a dark turn. The first humans (Adam and Eve) committed a treasonous act by disobeying God. And thus destroying the harmony that existed between God and man. Sin/Evil began its cancerous attack, devouring everything God created. The entrance of evil in the world has affected the whole story of the human race. We only need to look at current events to confirm that something has gone awfully wrong in the World. We desperately need a rescue!
RESCUE: The Good News is that God sent Jesus—our rescuer to rescue us from this sin filled world. The Bible tells us that Jesus is God in Human flesh. He is 100% God, 100% Man, 100% of the time. He is the God-man. And He came to this earth and He lived a blameless life and He taught Truth and He demonstrated how life was intended to be lived. But it was what He did on the cross that changed everything forever. He died an atoning sacrificial death on the cross and shouldered the evil/sin of the entire world so that we could be rescued and saved. But what is more is that He rose again after 3 days proving that He was God’s Son and showing us that we to could be resurrected on day and be restored.
This was the pivot point of all of human history: The Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
FAITH: So how is our relationship restored? How do we have confidence that we have eternal life in Heaven? How do we know that our sins have been forgiven? By accepting what Christ did on the cross by faith. (Ephesians 2:8,9) From birth we are programmed to work for everything: grades, rewards, wages, etc. We think that we have to try harder, live better, do good deeds. All in the attempt to work our way UP to God. However, with God, it is just the opposite! It’s all about Grace. Grace is receiving freely what we don’t deserve. And how we receive this free gift of God is by Faith—Trusting Jesus Christ alone and what He did on the Cross for the forgiveness of sins. How do we do that? We “…confess with our mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be SAVED.” Romans 10:9
Jesus came to rescue us but we need to choose. We need to humble ourselves and admit that we need Him and accept Him as our Lord and Savior.
Do you want to do that? Do you want to choose Him—place your faith in Christ? Would you be willing to stop trying to DO and accept what God has already DONE for you?
If you would do that the Bible says that your life would be…
RESTORATION: God loves you. He understands you. He wants to restore your life. The Bible says, “If anyone is in Christ (chooses Christ), he is a new creation. The old is gone and the new has come.(He is a new creation!)” The great news of the gospel is that your life can be restored now and will one day be forever restored through what Christ has done on the cross.
We want to encourage you that if you have made a decision to surrender your life to Christ, tell someone - like us right now! And we want to encourage you to start growing in your faith through worshipping Him by regularly reading God’s word, prayer and worship with other believers.
