Children's Special Needs Buddy
In this role, you will partner with any child in the Woods (Children’s Ministry) who have behavioural or developmental needs and would benefit from some extra support to help them participate more fully in the Woods programming. By having a buddy we hope to help each child feel safe, loved and included, while also encouraging them in their growth and understanding of God’s Word and the lesson of the day. On a Sunday you serve you will be the individual who is ready to care for any child who may need a buddy that week. This may mean that you will get to know a few different children. In this role, you will not be expected to teach a small group lesson but you would help support your buddy to participate during small group class time, large group worship and teaching time. While our goal is to help our kids with special needs participate fully in the programming, sometimes this isn’t possible and the kids need a quiet space away from other children. The Woods has a resource room with a sensory area where you can hang out with your buddy.
In this role your responsibilities will include (but may not be limited to):
+ Arrive 15 minutes early to meet your buddy when they arrive
+ Stay with your buddy for the duration of the service
+ Care for your buddy’s specific needs and help them to participate where they are able.
Training will be provided, as required.
Commitment: 1-2 hours on a rotating Sunday morning schedule during the service of your choice.
Requirements: Safe Church Training, an attendee of Emmanuel Barrie for a minimum of 6 months.
